Garage Sales and Hidden Estate Sales

I had the intent of going garage saling today, which worked out great, because I found some hidden estate sales, you know those ones that are basically garage sales but they are all vintage stuff they are trying to get rid of for mom and dad? Yeah I found some of those. My whole day ended up setting me back $3. I also hit a barn sale the day before and found some great finds there too.

From the barn sale:

I have always admired these industrial metal '50s lamps. I figure it will go in my office and match my industrial desk lamp!

Never have seen one of these before, a vintage chrome towel rack? Yes please!

Now for the garage sales:

This little guy is going to be GREAT! I'm so happy about this find.

Still in the box with manuals and warranty (yeah that's useful)

Sears electric knife, with an awesome Starburst on the handle. They had two vintage ones at the sale, this one, and another that was still in original packing which looks of a higher quality. I decided to buy both. This one would look cool mounted (minus the blades of course someone would think I was crazy, not that they didn't already buying two electric knives!) and the other one for actual use.

Can you say Woolco in original packaging?

I also saw this and thought it was gorgeous as I was driving through the neighborhoods.

I admit I did skip posting my finds from another sale, I have been so busy. I only found a vintage Montgomery Wards bun warmer and some vintage Christmas lights, so it's not totally worth posting just a couple items.

Vintage Tissue Paper?

Yeah... I went there. Vintage tissue paper. I found a package at a sale in February or March, and thought I would share the prints.

That one is my fav ^^

Second fav ^^

Kind of a neat selection of vintage tissue paper.

Rockford Estate Sale Day 2

Second days of great estate sales are the best... Can you say 50% off? Things that didn't look interesting the first day look great the second day (lol). I ended up purchasing some smalls, a couple more milk glass pieces, a great Italian wine glass 24 piece set for a mere $10. I also bought this amazing little baby....

The chrome polished up immaculate. The box comes with the original manual and warranty... Hmm I wonder if that still stands? Hah.

Rockford Estate Sale

The day I go down to get my sofa I remember that there's an estate sale just south of my house. So I drive to the uhaul dealer, drive down to pick up the sofa, drive home, drive back to the uhaul dealer, drive home and then drive back to the sale. Wow a lot of driving in one day. But it was worth it I found some great little finds!

Sealed still in the box old Timex "decorative wall clock"

Yes... This is the desirable mirro medallion barbeque set! I've never seen one of these before!

Such a cool box with all the starbursts.

Not a huge fan of Milk glass, but these pieces were unique enough and priced cheap enough to purchase, and the salt and pepper shakers LOOK like fiesta, I realize they aren't (I'm an expert fiesta collector) but they will match my fiesta dinnerware anyway.

This is my favorite find, it might be because I'm into Kromex right now. This was ridiculously cheap and here's why:

It was downright filthy.

Before and after! Wow! The chrome is in great condition even after years of being encrusted with dirt/dust.

Drexel Triune Dining Set

Earlier this week I found an ad on Craigslist for a 1962 Drexel Triune dining set. It was priced right so I had to go check it out.

I apologize, the photo was taken in the seller garage while we were writing up a receipt. The set included the table, 3 leaves (wow) and 4 chairs. I was hoping for 6 chairs but maybe I'll find another set some day and be able to add to my set. The cushions are in great condition. A little stainage going on but I'll take care of that with my handy little green machine. Other than that the table is immaculate aside from a small water spot. The original tags are underneath the seats of the chairs and everything.

Very minor!

Mid Century Sofa!

So I mentioned that I had purchased a mid century sofa... Well I went and rented the good ole uhaul again... Yes again. I think I may have neglected to post photos of the Drexel Dining set I bought earlier in the week. That's for another post.

After some thorough vacuuming and fluffing... (It still smells old) here it is!

What a beauty!

Double Whammy! NW Side Estate Sales

Today was a double whammy. I had seen on the net that there was a good sale coming up, lots of mid century modern. There was this amazing sectional that stood out! So I woke myself up on my day off at 6:00am and made the trek to the sale. Got to the sign in sheet and was number 14. Ouch. No chance of getting the sofa now. As the numbers were handed out from the sign in sheet two people hadn't made it back in time to collect their number so I bumped up to 12! I guess there's a flicker of hope right? Well I enter the house and the frenzy begins, everyone off in all directions but the couch is RIGHT there! Nobody goes for it? Nope! Just me! I grabbed the price tag! And it was WAY lower than I expected. Believe it or not while inspecting the couch everyone stole the other items I eyed in the ad, but I got my main priority. Here are the photos of it from the sale (bad bad bad photos sorry I was in a hurry)

I know I know there's stuff all over it and you can hardly see it.... It will be photographed much better soon.

The next sale I was sure had started at 8 as well so I was rushing off, it was only a couple miles north on the same side of town. To my surprise the sign up sheet was still there and it started at 9! Wow! I got number 18, it was awesome I was able to go to both sales and be a part of the first group to enter at both sales, that does not happen often. This sale I had no idea what I would find, this company uploads an overwhelming (but good) amount of photos so it's hard to target individual pieces unless they are big items and the furniture here wasn't my style.  But I ended up buying a few odds and ends.

A few Christmas items, although this looks like a set it was separate. The ceramic Christmas tree with pegs was priced individually from the set of small trees. All of these were created in ceramics. Always wanted one of those trees!

Some more ceramics, the middle vase called out to me, it was an interesting color I don't have. And the poodle... Well he was cute, couldn't resist haha.

A set of Indiana Glass tea glasses, loved the color of these. Kind of an electric blue. I also bought a set of hot trays or warming trays from the 60s I didn't think they needed to be photographed even though they were a complete transformation from their dirty state to clean state lol. Hopefully more mid century modern in the coming weeks!

68th Street Estate Sale Glassware Galore

This was an enormous lot of glassware, if I were a collector of glassware I would be in heaven!

All of the following photos were taken by an Eastown Antiques employee, I simply took them from the website they were posted publicly on, all rights and credit go to that photographer. You can view the photos on Estatesales.net.

Believe it or not there was even more! I am sparing you, since this is more of mid century modern based blog ;) I was amazed to say the least.
